So If you didn’t read my Friday post Friday Freak-out, you should read it to see why I need the privacy windows.
Long story short, we got new windows and the windows in my showers were not Private! To say it was an issue for me was an understatement.
So I had to put my thinking cap on for this one, I could spend more money and order new glass, but I was not about to do that after all the money we have already put into these windows. As I was brainstorming, I remembered a Pyrex Dish my good Friend Lucie gave me one year for Christmas with my name etched on it, so when I take dinner to a friend or dessert to a party, I will always get my dish back. Pretty genius right?
So why couldn’t I etch these windows? So Off to the internet I went and spend hours reading and watching You Tube videos on how to etch glass. I found etching cream called Armor Etch. Over and Over again I read not for use on large areas. But in my head I didn’t think it would be an issue because I wasn’t stenciling anything on the windows, just trying to get a nice even coverage. So We decided to give it a try, I mean we would have to buy new glass anyways if we didn’t find a fix, so what did we have to lose?
After the first coat there was definitely spots that needed to be redone, but I could see that this might work, I had to run to the store and buy more Etching Paste. This is after two bottles of Paste and I still wasn’t happy, you could still see areas that weren’t fully covered and it was uneven. I was determined though, so off to get another, and hopefully last bottle of paste.
So three bottles later I think I am happy! No more see through windows! yay! and it only cost us $45! The bright side to having to go back to Hobby Lobby three different times, is you get to use the 40% off each time. Whoo Hoo!
Here’s the final results:
Because I am a very visual person i will show you the before and afters side by side:
That is a great idea!
