Wow it’s been forever since I’ve written! I’ve been totally preoccupied with our house and remodel… Well we are still trying to get it started, it’s been very difficult to find workers and products in these crazy times! But enough about that, about the same time we closed on the house, my sister Ashley wanted to give me a free box to Hello Fresh, I have been offered free boxes to this more times than I can count, I have never had the desire to try it out at all… cooking isn’t my thing, but I have been in a major food rut and decided what the heck, I’ll give it a try! I thought if this will make life easier for me I am all in!
So first off, I am just gonna put this out there, I am not a cook, like I am a lazy cook, nacho’s, grilled cheese, quesadillas, tacos, baked potato’s are my go to’s and I know poor Doug would love it if I cooked him fancy meals, but 1 I have no clue how to do that and 2 there is only the two of us home now so me whipping up a huge fancy dinner seems even less enticing, I cant tell you how many times we settled on a bowl of cereal for dinner just to avoid the dreaded what’s for dinner question, I hate, and Hate is probably not strong enough of a word, but I HATE figuring out what to eat!!!
So after accepting her free box of meals, I had to go on the app and pick out three meals to try. Man even that was hard for me! I was like this all looks too fancy and I am not sure I will even like anything they had to offer! I don’t like veggies, never have, so this is going to be really rough. I picked three meals that didn’t scare me too bad. I picked Turkey fajita bowls, Pecan Crusted Chicken and Creamy Ricotta Tomato Ravioli.
I had low expectations, but dang it all three meals were delicious! And I can’t tell you how happy Doug was to see me in the kitchen slaving away! LOL We decided to continue for a few more weeks to see if it was just the “free” meals that were good or if they all were? Well I am here to tell you that we are really impressed! in fact we have liked everything we’ve tried so far, I waited over a month to report, just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke thing. The only meal we weren’t super impressed with is the steak one which we actually paid extra for, we decided Doug makes a good steak we don’t need to pay extra for those and adding a fruit sauce to my steak… I tried it, but I don’t recommend it! LOL But it is getting me out of my comfort zone a little and trying different flavors and veggies. I mostly like the flavors of veggies but cant quite just eat them all Willey Nilley yet, baby steps… luckily Doug loves them so he just eats what I wont.
Things I love about Hello Fresh, the flavors are all so different than what we are used to so we feel like we are eating new and fun things. I don’t have to think about what’s for dinner for three nights out of the week! This is huge for me! I have my meals delivered on Tuesdays, so Tuesday through Thursday I don’t even have to think about what’s for dinner! This is so perfect for us, we were starting to eat out WAY too often, so this way we can eat out on the weekends like normal people if we want without feeling like gross pigs eating out all the time. It also comes with everything You need for each meal, like everything, the only thing you ever really add is olive oil and butter. It has actually cut our grocery shopping down massively!

Now there are some disadvantages to this also, I feel like every meal takes me forever to make! like sometimes it’s almost an hour! I think it may have something to do with me learning to wash and dry and chop up veggies, when I say I never do that I am not kidding! Zesting lemons, mincing onions and peeling garlic??… don’t judge me, but if something calls for lemon I just squeeze some lemon juice out of those plastic lemon shaped things, garlic or onions, I either use garlic powder or onion powder or if I am really being fancy I will use minced garlic from a jar, I rarely use the real deal. Sorry Doug and boys, I honestly had no clue there was a difference, I will admit using fresh ingredients tastes so much better!! But back to the cons… so after an hour of cooking, I feel like I’ve used every pot and pan and the kitchen is a complete disaster! So there is the clean up, which I am getting used to, but it takes all of 1 minute and 1 knife to make a PB&J so this is somewhat of a Con…
So ya there you have it, my review of Hello Fresh, not sponsored in any way LOL! I can’t believe I have waited so long to give it a try! If you want to give it a try too I am sure I can hook you up with a free box just send me a message!
Here is a little peak of all the meals I have made in the last couple of weeks… Not too shabby!
