Growing up I washed, blow dried and styled my hair EVERY SINGLE DAY!! I have thick hair now, but it was even thicker and curlier back then. It was quite the chore! It wasn’t til I was in my late 20’s that my hairdresser once asked me how often I washed my hair, I said'” everyday of course.” He then told me that was the worst thing I could be doing for my hair. He told me not only was it drying out my hair and causing it to be more damaged, it was also making it so my hair color wasn’t lasting as long.
So for years I have washed my hair every other day and it has helped a lot with my split ends and keeping my hair from fading as fast. I loved the days when I woke up knowing it was not a wash my hair day. It sure did cut back on the time it took me to get ready for the day. I also got to sleep in a little on those days…bonus.
Fast forward to the last couple of years or so, I have been stretching my hair washing to every two or three days and it has been wonderful, I really have noticed a difference in my hair and its overall health. Â Apparently I don’t have super oily hair, or else this would be an issue for sure, but I do find that I can’t stand the smell of old hair. I’ve heard of people using dry shampoo, but I didn’t think it would be something someone with dark hair could use. My daughter in law introduced me to Batiste dry shampoo, it has been the best thing, it has made it so I only wash my hair about 2 times a week. This couldn’t have come at a better time in my life, because the older I get the more lazy I have become, I can see why back in the day all “older moms” had super short hair, It’s because they were all tired of doing their hair! LOL
My favorite one is the Hint of Color Dark. This leaves no white powdery film at all. They have all kinds, I am currently using the Sassy & Daring Wild, which is supposed to be for all hair types, but I find it is a little more whitish when I spray it on, But if you brush it real good it goes away. I don’t know why I strayed from my favorite, I think it had something to do with the cute bottle.
Now Before you go and start judging me and my dirty hair, Let me tell you all the benefits of not washing everyday. More time to sleep( probably my favorite one), Save money on shampoo and conditioner, as well as any other hair care products you put on your hair when its freshly washed, Healthier hair, less damage, Hair color lasts longer… should I go on? If those aren’t enough to convince you, Sorry then Judge away… Dirty Hair, Dont care!!
