Home Made Ice Cream

I Love Summer. It is the season I wait all year long for, there really is nothing better than summertime. What can make those long, hot days of summer even better? Ice cream of course!  But not just any ice cream , Home made ice cream! I think it may just remind me of my childhood and simpler times, OR it may just be the creamy goodness, I don’t know, whatever it is, It is Favorite!

Growing up i remember my dad being in charge of making the ice cream, so here is my dad’s recipe. It is SO simple and easy, there really is no excuse to not make some of this yummy goodness sometime this summer.

Home made Vanilla Ice Cream:

2 Quarts Half & half

1 Quart Heavy Whipping Cream

2 1/2 ~3 cups sugar ( depending on how sweet you like it)

1 tablespoon Vanilla

1 teaspoon salt

  • Mix all the above ingredients together and pour into the ice cream freezer ( this is for a 3 quart machine)
  • turn on ice cream maker and start adding crushed ice and rock salt until full. Keep adding ice and salt as needed.
  • wait til mixer stops and you are done!!
  • Ice Cream will be super soft, transfer ice cream to a Tupperware and freeze for a few hours if you like your ice cream hard. If you are going to a party or outdoor BBQ you can take out the mixer paddle and put the lid back on ( make sure to plug the hole) and fill the whole tub up with ice and cover with a few towels, it should keep frozen( softer ice cream) for a few hours this way.
  • Enjoy!!

This time I tried the fat-free half & Half and I seriously can not tell a difference. So if you’re trying to cut down on your fat intake, you wont even notice! But don’t worry there is enough sugar to make up any health benefits you might think you are getting! LOL
