If you know me at all you know that I have a very unhealthy obsession with ice cream…well not just any ice cream, Thrifty’s Ice Cream to be exact! I grew up eating it, and when I say that I don’t just mean I had it every once in a while, I am talking I ate It ALOT! So much so that I am pretty sure I ate it every day for lunch my freshman year in high school because I couldn’t drive yet and Thrifty’s was right across the street. My lunch would consist of a double chocolate malted crunch and mint n chip ice cream cone with a snickers candy bar on the side! How I didn’t weigh 500 pounds is beyond me!
I moved to Utah when I was 18 years old right out of high school and there is one thing I am always trying to find, and that is an awesome ice cream. Over the years I would find something that would kind of fill my Thrifty void, but nothing ever has come close.
Any time we are in California you better believe finding a thrifty’s is high on our list of things to do. At first Doug would just take me there to be nice, but over the years somehow he too has become hooked on the creamy goodness! When my sister Nancy lived in Arizona she informed me that the Water and Ice store sold Thrifty’s Ice Cream. I have had her load up the biggest cooler she could find and fill it full of Chocolate Malted Crunch and Mint N’ Chip ice cream more times than I care to admit, and we have even driven down there to do the same.
A couple of years ago I found out that Park City has a Thrifty’s Ice Cream in the Rite Aid there!! WHOO HOO!! I could not believe it! We have gone so many times and filled our coolers up it is a little embarrassing to say the least. But I am sharing this info because I know I have a lot of California friends who probably grew up eating Thrifty’s too and have no idea it is there, but probably more for selfish reasons because I want it to stay in business so I can always get my fix. Do I have a problem? Ya probably, Do I care? NOPE 😛 Now go on and go buy some Thrifty’s already! You know you want to!!
