It’s Graduation time and what better gift to give a newly graduated high School student then the gift of money?? But giving money in a card seems too boring.
When my oldest graduated I made him candy and money Lei’s and I decided to make him enough so that each of us could put one around his neck at graduation. Well when my second one graduated I decided to carry on the tradition, so I made them again, and here it is my last son is graduation and there’s no way I can stop now! I also have 3 nieces graduating too this year so I really needed to up my Lei making game, So my sister and I got together and we got to work. It is a lot funner making Lei’s for girls, there are a lot more fun ideas for them. I started off folding all the money into shapes, Butterflies and Flowers.
Butterfly Money:
Flower Money:
Once you get the hang of it, it goes by super fast, these two designs are almost the same folds with just a few variations. Then you make the Candy necklaces.
Candy Necklaces: you can use any type of candy, the possibilities are endless! Roll out cellophane or plastic wrap ( I don’t like the looks of plastic wrap for some reason) So I use cellophane and lay out the candy onto the edge of the plastic. Carefully roll up and tie curling ribbon in between each piece of candy.
Now attach butterflies and money to your candy necklaces with wire and there you have it! A super cute Candy/ Money Lei!
Check out tomorrow, I will show you how I made a Kukui Nut/Money Lei
